5 Things You Should NEVER Do at the Hair Salon (If You Don’t Want to Be Hated)
1. Showing up with freshly washed hair
Let’s start here.
You walk in all proud, hair squeaky clean from home.
You know what your stylist is thinking? “Great, now I can’t read your hair at all.”
You’ve stripped away natural oils, elasticity, and logic.
It’s like going to the dentist after you’ve pulled your own tooth. Effort appreciated, but useless.
2. Saying “Do whatever you want” — and then hating it
“Do whatever you want” is the biggest lie ever told in a salon.
Only two kinds of people say it: those who have no clue what they want and those hoping for a miracle.
Then, when the hairstylist actually creates something bold, the drama begins:
“That’s not what I meant.”
Oh really? Neither did they.
3. Showing a picture of Jennifer Lopez (with straw-like hair)
Every week someone walks in with a photo of a celebrity, convinced that copying the haircut will magically transform them.
Spoiler: it won’t.
That photo? Lit, styled, filtered, and managed by a glam squad of ten.
You? You just took off a scrunchie and said, “Like this, but blonder.”
No, not “like this.” Never “like this.”
4. Talking on the phone while getting your hair cut
It’s not multitasking — it’s just rude.
Your stylist is holding sharp scissors, focused, and you’re bobbing your head laughing with your friend.
Result? A cut that only makes sense if you like “urban asymmetry.”
If you need to talk, do it later — when you’re complaining on Instagram.
5. Expecting miracles after months of hair abuse
And now the painful truth.
DIY bleaching, daily straightening, drugstore shampoo… then you walk in and ask:
“Can you make my hair healthy again?”
No. You need a rehab plan, not a treatment.
If your hair could talk, it would sue you.
Brutally honest conclusion
Let’s be clear: hairstylists are not saints, and salons are not holy shrines.
If you want good hair, start by treating it — and your stylist — with respect.
And if you recognized yourself in any of these points… well, redemption starts with conditioner.

I’ve heard it all, seen it all, and stopped pretending to be polite about it. I write what every hairstylist thinks but doesn’t say out loud.
