3 Secrets for Curly Hair Over 40 That No One Tells You

Curly hair changes after 40: it becomes drier, thinner and often loses definition. Yet, with the right precautions, they can return to being the most beautiful and enhancing part of a look.
In my salon I see it every day: customers who think they have “impossible curls” and then, with a few targeted tricks, discover that their hair still has enormous potential.
1. Targeted hydration against dryness and dullness
After 40, curls need more intensive care.
👉 My advice in the salon: I always check the hair by touch. If I feel the fiber dry, I propose a deep moisturizing treatment with masks based on hyaluronic acid and light oils.
- A cycle of 3 sessions close together works particularly well: the client already after the second note the more elastic and soft curls.
- At home I always recommend a mask at least 1 time a week: those who follow it come back with visibly healthier hair.
2. Definition with delicacy
The Over 40 hedgehog must be defined but without the “cardboard” effect.
👉 In the salon: I work a lot with light mousses and I always use the diffuser at medium temperature, never at maximum. The difference can be seen: the curls remain soft and do not break.
👉 At home: I teach clients the “scrunch” method with leave-in, or the LOC (Leave-in, Oil, Cream). Those who apply it constantly always come back satisfied: curls form better and last longer.

👉 From my point of view: with the Over 40 curls I avoid full and geometric cuts. Layered and volumetric cuts work much better, which give freshness to the face.
- I often propose a dry cut, cutting dry hair: so the customer immediately sees the real shape of her curl.
- It is the moment when they tell me: “Finally I see myself well even with my curls”.
