AirLight Pro: Is It Worth the Price? MDP Verdict
A professional hair dryer that promises more speed, more hydration and less consumption may seem like the perfect answer for a salon. But when the price enters the premium range, the question changes: it is not enough that it is innovative, it must really improve the daily work.
This is the first release of the new MDP Tested for You guide. AirLight Pro has not been physically tested in the salon by MDP: what follows is therefore an MDP Technical Verdict, built on official documentation, data declared by the manufacturer, instructions for use, observed public prices and comparison with professional alternatives. No direct experience is simulated.
MDP Test Level
Desk review document, updated on 1 September 2026. Main sources: official L’Oréal Professionnel sheet and support; public retailer prices; official Dyson specifications for ergonomic comparison. It is not an independent instrumental test nor an ongoing in-salon test.
What AirLight Pro Really Promises

The central difference is the infrared light, combined with airflow and heat. According to the official Italian AirLight Pro sheet, the system directly targets water molecules and replicates evaporation closer to natural evaporation, reducing heat exposure.
L’Oréal Professionnel claims up to 21% faster drying, 55% more hydration retained and 19% less energy consumption. The reference indicated by the brand is an instrumental test against the best-selling premium hair dryer in Europe, above 180 euros. These are the manufacturer’s results: interesting, but they are not equivalent to an independent MDP verification.
The device offers three air and temperature levels, display, two automatically recognized magnetic accessories and customizable modes via app. The official international page also indicates a high-speed motor with 17 blades, a declared noise level of 76 dB and a weight of 1.7 pounds, about 770 grams.
The salon question: useful technology or complication?
Customization makes sense especially where the team works on different textures and wants to make the finish repeatable. Saving temperature and flow combinations can help turn an individual preference into a shared setting.
The limit is just as real: an app doesn’t automatically make a blow-dry better. If the salon doesn’t define when to use the presets, who sets them up and how to clean the two filters, the “smart” part risks going unused. L’Oréal Professionnel recommends regular cleaning and the device signals when maintenance is needed – an advantage, but also a routine to assign.
It’s the same principle we applied in the guide on professional equipment in the salon: a tool only creates value if it improves results, time or comfort in an observable way.
The confrontation that counts: hand, time and workstation

AirLight Pro should not only be compared with the old hair dryer of the salon. Its real competitive territory is that of premium digital and intelligent dryers. MDP has already analyzed the Dyson Supersonic r Professional, as well as digital models such as JRL Forte Pro 2020H and GA. MA Bravo 90.
Here the main documentary reservation emerges. In the official specifications of the Supersonic r Professional, Dyson declares 650 grams without cable and power adapter; L’Oréal indicates about 770 grams on the US page. The measurement methods are not perfectly homogeneous, so it would not be correct to proclaim a winner. But for a hairdresser who uses the hairdryer for many hours, the perceived weight and balance deserve real proof before buying.
| MDP Reading | Criterion | To be checked in the salon |
|---|---|---|
| Speed | Interesting instrumental claim | Minutes on short, medium and long hair |
| Quality of finish | Promising technology to limit heat exposure | Shine, volume, frizz and hold |
| Ergonomics | Not certifiable by the tab | Wrist and shoulder after a full day |
| Consumption | Declared reduction of up to 19% | kWh real per fold and effective time |
| Maintenance | Dual filter with smart alert | Cleaning frequency in the real environment |
Price: when can the investment be recouped
The brand’s Italian website does not show a single public price. The list price indicated by Salon Service is 599 euros; at the time of checking, the same retailer was offering it at 449 euros. It is therefore important to distinguish the list price from the current offer. On September 1, 2026, MDP observed very different online offers: 449 euros at Beauty Coiffure and 505 euros at My Beauty Shop, with higher values on other channels. It is therefore not correct to set a universal price list: the salon must check retailer, warranty, VAT, availability and assistance.
To decide, the useful calculation is not “does it cost too much?”, but: how many minutes does it have to save to pay for itself? If a salon does a lot of folding, even modest savings can free up capacity. But before you can include it in the business plan, you need three real measures: current average time, time with AirLight Pro and hourly cost of the workstation. The manufacturer’s claim should not be copied directly into the income statement.
MDP grade: 78/100
| Declared performance and result | 24/30 |
| 16/20 | ease of use |
| Quality and design | 17/20 |
| Value for money | 12/20 |
| Innovation | 9/10 |
| Total | 78/100 |

Before you buy: the MDP checklist
- Try it for a full day, not just one demonstration fold.
- Measure three times: short, medium and long hair, using the same protocol.
- Evaluate your pulse, shoulder, perceived noise, and balance at the end of the day.
- Check that the speaker, concentrator and preset cover the services actually sold.
- Compare final price, warranty, service and spare parts availability.
- Estimate the return using minutes saved and the hourly cost of the station, not the advertising claim.
MDP Technical Verdict: passed with reservations
Highlights
Truly distinctive technology, precise customization, automatically recognized accessories, attention to time and consumption, minimum declared international warranty of two years.
Limitations
High and variable price, benefits still based on the manufacturer’s tests, ergonomics to be verified on the whole day, app useful only if integrated into the team’s method.
For which salon
Structures with a high volume of creases, premium clientele, strong work on different textures and willingness to measure time and consumption. Less convincing for those who are only looking for a reliable hair dryer without using presets, apps and process control.
Would we buy it again?
We can’t say it without actually using it. The correct editorial answer is another: we would put it on the shortlist, but we would buy it only after a comparative test of at least one day on three types of hair.
